Elemis taps Perfect Corp. for mobile skin analysis, product recommendation tool

The artificial intelligence-driven skin diagnostic experience will give mobile users suggestions for products to combat issues like wrinkles, dark spots and redness.

After adding a new capability to its AI skin analysis technology in July, Perfect Corp. is jumping into the skin diagnostics trend by integrating its tech with individual beauty brands like Elemis. The company’s technology can detect a user’s skin type and recognize 14 skin care issues.

“It was important for Elemis to enable a truly personalized experience for our consumers. We offer the perfect must-have regimen based on the skin analysis, but if a consumer has a particular concern, such as pores or redness, they can tap their concern to get a truly targeted regimen,” Stevie Journey, senior director of omnichannel digital experience at Elemis, said in a statement. “The consumer is in control of the skincare regimen recommended to them.”

In addition to Elemis and Perfect Corp., others have ventured into skin assessment technologies. Modiface, L’Oreal’s subsidiary, launched an artificial intelligence-driven skin diagnostic tool in 2019, which the beauty conglomerate intended to offer on its brand websites. In September 2022, J.C. Penney announced a partnership with Revieve to launch a skin care adviser experience, which provided product recommendations based on scans of their selfies.

Meanwhile, Perfect Corp. has collaborated with brands to extend the reach of its suite of tools, including its augmented reality technology. In 2021, Mineral Fusion tapped Perfect Corp. to introduce a virtual beauty product testing tool in Whole Foods stores. Perfect Corp. also teamed up with travel retailer Dufry earlier this year to let airport shoppers try products from Kylie Cosmetics, Huda Beauty and other brands in select locations.
