The New Onyx Boox Palma Is the Smallest E

Looking to buy an ebook reader but don’t want to carry around a cumbersome device?

A Kindle or a Nook are great choices but they are the size of a paperback, so not really that portable if you have a small bag.

Now, there’s a new player in town thanks to Onyx.

E-reader company Onyx just revealed their new Onyx Boox Palma ebook reader and it’s the size of a regular phone. Even more so, the Boox Palma shares some specs with a smartphone, even coming with a camera on the back and the ability to make calls?

Is it a phone, is it an e-reader? It’s probably both and would work great for someone trying to fight off a phone addiction.

Probably one of the smallest e-readers ever made, the Boox Palma has a 6.13-inch screen with a resolution of f 824 x 1648 pixels. That’s about the size of a regular smartphone and, even though e-ink screens consume much less power than a regular color display, the battery size and other specs are comparable to a smartphone as well, albeit a budget one.

The Boox Palma has a 3,950 mAh battery, which means it should go for about a week on a charge, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage (plus a MicroSD slot), paired with an eight-core CPU from Qualcomm.

Curiously, the Boox Palma has a 16 MP camera on the back that shoots greyscale photos. For what? We don’t know, maybe people doing extreme digital detoxes?

The same questions go for the software side too, since the Boox Palma can also let you browse social media, send messages and make voice calls.

Still, the Boox Palma doesn’t support a SIM card and has no eSIM inside – all of those functionalities are enabled thanks to WiFi.

The Onyx Boox Palma is already available for sale on the official website and pre-orders went for $250. The bad news? It’s already out of stock and the final price could jump to $280, according to 9to5Google.
